What better way to celebrate a trip to Chicago than with a surprise proposal?! Andrew had big hopes of proposing to his boyfriend, Brandon, while in the city visiting from St. Louis.
Andrew’s original plan was to propose in front of the Christmas tree in Millennium Park. However, we knew there would be crowds gathering for the parade, and it did not seem likely we could be near the tree. So his backup plan was to find an incredible skyline location, and I immediately sent him a few options. I’ll share these in a later post :).
Andrew loved the views from North Avenue Beach! We worked together to develop a plan and how we would capture their surprise proposal. Since they had friends visiting with them, I took the opportunity to ask for their help with my lighting. The beach was empty at this time, except for a few other couples walking nearby.
I approached the group and asked if anyone could help me test my lighting as I was waiting for my client. It worked! Andrew and Brandon posed for a simple photo, and he went down on one knee and proposed to Brandon with their close friends streaming the whole thing.
It’s only in true Chicago fashion that the temps were on the chilly side, yet sunset didn’t disappoint. Cotton candy skies are always my favorite; there’s nothing more magical than feeling like you’re in a Taylor Swift music video while proposing!
Having someone photograph your proposal is the best way to remember these moments. Everything happens fast, and emotions are running at the speed of light. It’s so fun to look back at your reactions and remember how it felt to become engaged! So consider having your proposal captured, and you’ll be sure to have me by your side guiding you through location options, what to wear, and more.
Congratulations, Andrew and Brandon!
